Nigerian man sentenced to life in U.S. Prison for attempting to kill State District Judge

A Nigerian man has been sentenced to life in Federal prison for racketeering schemes that involved the capital murder of State District Judge Julie Kocurek. 
A federal judge yesterday sentenced 31-year-old Chimene Hamilton Onyeri to life in federal prison for his leadership role in carrying out fraud and racketeering schemes that involved the attempted capital murder of State District Court Judge Julie Kocurek in November of 2015.  
In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel ordered Onyeri to pay $178,374.41 restitution. 
“Today’s life sentence for Mr. Onyeri was about more than obtaining a measure of justice for Judge Kocurek—although we certainly did that.  It was also about safeguarding the integrity of our judicial system.  This office, along with our federal, state, and local law-enforcement partners, will be absolutely relentless in pursuing those who attack or threaten judges or court staff.  Impartial, fearless judges are key to the rule of law. Today the rule…

United States ends diplomatic visas for UN same-sex partners

Under a new State Department requirements, the United States will only recognize marriages, and not same-sex partnerships, when granting diplomatic visas to partners.   
The change, which took effect Monday, impacts the partners of United Nations officials, ambassadors, full-time embassy and consulate staff, and foreign military members stationed at US military bases or assigned to a foreign embassy or consulate in the US, among others. 
A senior administration official said that approximately 105 families in the US would be impacted by the new policy, and of those only about 55 are with international organizations. Very few of those individuals are from countries where same-sex marriage is illegal. 
Since 2009, the US had accepted same-sex domestic partners as family members when granting certain classes of diplomatic visas. Under the new guidance, the US will only accept legally married spouses when granting new visa accreditations. Those in domestic partnerships who are currently in …

Senior Pastor of the Household of God church, Chris Okotie, has declared his intention to run for president in the 2019 election.  
He declared his intention to run for the presidency under the platform of the Fresh Democratic Party during a service to commemorate the nation’s Independence Day at his church yesterday October 1st. 
He called on the ruling party APC and the main opposition party, PDP, to pick him as their consensus candidate. 
“I want to re-affirm my call for an interim government and to ask those that are concerned, who are the political actors to consider me as a consensus candidate. I have referred to myself as a consensus remedial facilitator because of the existential threats that we have now and I think that it’s time for us to lay aside the habiliments of our political affiliations and to embrace a new nationalistic philosophy that can salvage this country at this time” he said

Auchi Polytechnic lecturer flees after allegedly inflicting female sudent with injury

A lecturer in Auchi polytechnic in Edo state allegedly assaulted a student of the department of Science Laboratory and Technology [SLT] and caused her an injury that required medical treatment. 
According to reports, the incident happened on Saturday, 29th September, 2018. The Ecology lecturer was said to have accompanied his colleague to assist in a practical course before the incident. 
According to a student who witnessed the incident, the lecturer came furiously to the class and gave an order for the students that were not seated to wait outside during the practical. As the erring students lingered close to the door, the lecturer pushed the door in anger and it hit a pregnant student named Mrs. Dele Miracle. 

At this point, students of the department were reported to have come to the defence of their pregnant colleague. It was gathered that after some time, the lecturer went and parked his car somewhere outside the department then came back to discipline the students for revolting.

The woman allegedly brutalized by a soldier A heartbroken father has taken to social media to accuse a soldier of brutalising his daughter at Nyanya market in Abuja. The man identified as Tersoo Samson Akula, said  the soldier publicly assaulted his daughter after she told him to help her pass a bottle which was close to him before he allegedly called her derogatory names and descended on her. The accused soldier has been identified as one Mr. Aloysius serving at the Mogadishu barracks in the Federal capital territory. He has called on relevant authorities to intervene on his daughter's behalf. The man shared the update on Facebook.
