Africa is drawing expectations and attention from the international community as the “biggest frontier of the 21st century.” Africa, which embraces a population of more than 1.2 billion in 54 diverse countries, has huge market potential and abundant natural resources. In recent years, since relatively stable political conditions have attracted foreign direct investment and expanded domestic consumption, the African economy has experienced significant change and dynamic growth.

Japan pursues two major approaches to guide its relations with African countries, namely “quality growth (inclusiveness, sustainability, and resilience)” and “human security (capacity building focusing on each individual in Africa).”

What is TICAD?

TICAD stands for the “Tokyo International Conference on African Development.” It was launched in 1993 to promote high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and development partners. Meetings are led by Japan and co-organized by the United Nations, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank and the African Union Commission (AUC).

TICAD7 to Be Held in 2019 in Yokohama

Yokohama has been selected as the host city for the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (“TICAD7”), to be held in Japan in 2019.
It will be the third time for Yokohama to host TICAD. The city has used previous opportunities to host the conference in 2008 and 2013 to build stronger relationships of cooperation and exchange with African countries.

In his opening remarks at TICAD VI, Prime Minister Abe announced the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy” and stressed that the key to the stability and prosperity of the international community is the dynamism created by bringing together the “two continents” ― Asia, which is accomplishing remarkable growth, and Africa, which is full of potentials ― and two oceans ― the free and open Pacific and the Indian Oceans.

September 30, 2018 Update On Zimbabwean Man Who Sneaked Into Hospital Ward & Had Sex With Sick Wife Daniel O. Businessman Elton Chitanda (29) who runs Delicious Delight Restaurant in Masvingo and his wife Fadzai Chivende (25) have been fined $75 by Magistrate Peter Madiba for having sex in a female ward. Alternatively, they would be jailed for 15 days each. Madiba accused the two of torturing other patients by having sex in their full view and making noise before he convicted them of public indecency. The incident which has shocked many people happened at Masvingo General Hospital in July this year. Chitanda however, said he did not have sexual intercourse with his wife but they only hugged and kissed before he tucked himself in with her on the bed to sleep.
